Miami

It was going to be an incredible week of posts featuring sunshine, life on the boat, our friends, beaches, and utilizing the all you can drink package. Instead, I have one day of pictures of traveling to Miami, one day of getting on the boat and leaving port, and one day in CoCo Cay Bahamas. So, here’s the fun and anticipation of a travel day to Miami and meeting up with our friends and family on the rooftop patio and pool!

Fort Lauderdale

There were a few rays of sunshine during our 12 day “stay” in Fort Lauderdale. Jen and the boys were able to make it to the beach and the boardwalk a few times. The guys found some Florida beer. While there aren’t any pictures, on the last morning, Jen witnessed the response for an officer involved shooting a half mile from her hotel. I watched it live on TV from my hospital bed. What a state.

Fever Dream

Hello faithful readers and friends, Campingdad is back to the blog. It really is hard to fathom and summarize the last two weeks of my and our family’s life. Two weeks ago today we were on the Oasis of the Seas getting ready to dock in the Bahamas. We were with our friends and family. Seven days of sun, beaches, laughs, memories created, and relationships to build and strengthen.

Then Monday night, personal disaster. The pain. The vomiting. The fear. Complete bowel obstruction and probable failure of my ostomy. Here’s a brief summary of the next twelve days:

Medical evacuation...private plane…pain meds…G-tube…emergency room…pain…x-rays…iv’s…nurses…doctors…sleepless nights and restless days…surgery…bloodwork…wound vacuum…Noah arrives and leaves…Andrew arrives and leaves…Nathanael and Ruthie arrive…more x-rays…vital checks around the clock…so many texts/emails/calls/messages…trying to sit up and walk…trying to get home…flights booked…all of that and so much more.

And finally, on Friday around 1130AM, we made it home. And now, recovery and healing.

DUNE II

Andrew and I have been waiting over a year for “DUNE II.” Made it to the premier with his group of friends at the Kress. What a spectacular movie. Remained mostly true to the book, and had a run time of well over 2 1/2 hours. I hope they continue the franchise…there enough material for over a decade of movies and spinoffs.

Leadership

Huge shout out to my friend Colleen for inviting me to a conference on Thursday entitled “Resilient Migration: Moving from Leadership Mistakes to Momentum.” For only a few hours, it was packed with great ideas, including what every employee (and every person for that matter) needs daily. I also loved the keynote speakers life motto. Was great to spend the morning with some friendly faces, too.
