Junction

A little more low-key day here today. Although we did seem to get quite a bit done. The ladies spent most of the morning making tamales for great grandpa Morgans big birthday celebration in May. Jim and I worked on the Ford and ran a few errands for his job. There were multiple board games going on throughout the day: Life and Risk and Settlers of Catan. Nathanael and I worked in about an hour long bike ride "down by the river." After dinner, Sarabeth, Nathanael, Janet and I rode bikes to the local Frozen Yougurt shop. Thankfully no one died. And I'm almost half way through "Fourth of July Creek."

Grand Mesa

The Grand Mesa awaits! We had planned to take a hike from the visitors center on top of the Mesa, however the snow had a different idea. So the hike became a nice drive, a few scenic pullouts and a quick snow ball fight. After grilling out some burgers and putting Janet's new bike together, the bike gang on Mesa View Drive was born. A great day of vacation. Also finished another book!

Mr. Frontier

The annual Mr. Frontier contest was held on Wednesday night at the school. It is a yearly tradition which crowns one senior boy as the best boy of the senior class in a Miss America type pageant. While we don't have a senior yet, Noah and his friend Ben were asked to host the event. It's a big deal. Similar to hosting the Oscars. And they knocked it out of the park! Three contume changes, whitty banter between themselves and the contestants and the ability to keep the show rolling highlighted the evening. Maybe someday one of the Roth boys will be crowned Mr. Frontier.

BOTB

Sadly, our Battle of the Books season ended this week. We had been practicing every Wednesday at lunch since December. Only 2 teams advance from the school battle to the district battle. We tied for second, then had an epic 7 question sudden death overtime with the team we were tied with. We came up just short. It was a great season with a wonderful team. Hopefully I get to coach again next year.

History

Sarabeth and her 4th grade class made the trek to Denver on Tuesday to visit the Colorado History Museum. Sis loves Colorado history and really enjoyed the tour and several exhibits. We would love to make a family trip down there this spring, hopefully with a stop at VooDoo Donuts!

D

Besides attending the X-Games, playing Counterstrike and studying for AccaPenta and debate, here is one of the things D enjoys amost more then anything else in the world: eating. A hamburger. At Steak 'n Shake.

Fire

It's been beautiful spring weather here in Colorado the past week. So over the weekend we set up the fire put and enjoyed the amazing backyard we have been blessed with. Noah was even home to enjoy some s'more with us. Hope this is the first of many this summer!

Drama

The spring drama season came to a close with the presentation of "A Knight at Dawn," based on the Magic Tree House story. Sarabeth had been rehearsing since December for the big production. She killed it! Three costume changes, lots a singing, dancing and speaking, and several of set changes. She did such a great job projecting her voice so that she was heard clearly. Andrew and I enjoyed her Friday night show, while Jen took the other boys to the Saturday afternoon matinee. Fridays nights celebration was dinner and a shake at Steak 'n Shake. Saturday she recieved two bouquets of flowers! Great job sister. I'm so proud.

Uncle Steve

Made a quick trip to Laramie on the days off this week. It was really fun to hang out with the folks for a couple of days. We enjoy several nice meals together, shared coffee at Coal Creek and shopped the bookstores downtown. Tuesday night we braved the snow and cold to listen to a presentation by the world famous Mark Jenkins at UW. Afterwards dad and I each got a signed and personalized copy of his book "A Man's Life."

The trip was made even better by a visit to town by Uncle Steve! He was covering the Utah State/Wyoming basketball game and got to Laramie a little early so we could see him. We also enjoyed breakfast with him before he headed back to Salt Lake. It was so great to catch up with him and hear about his life in Utah with Aunt Jannelle. We shared many stories, new and old, and had plenty of laughs. A great trip home!
