Party!

Thankfully the crazy Colorado weather cleared up in time for the annual Paul Richmier Memorial Day birthday bash. I have know Paul since our RA days back at UNC in 1996.  While I only lasted a semester, Paul and Jen both made it for the entire year.  It is so fun seeing our families change and grow over the years. Happy Birthday Paul!

Hour 3

We are officially 3 hours into a record setting 108 day summer vacation. Kinda hard to believe. Both that another school year is over, and the summer break is sooooooo long. Almost a third of the year. Hopefully lots of time will be spent right here with our good friend Levi!

Field Day!

It is the tradition on the last full day of school at Frontier to hold the annual Field Day. The kids all get shirts, and while they are participating in the different activities they have their friends and teachers sign their shirts with Sharpies.  It makes for quite a colorful and cool keepsake.  Sarabeth is now done with school, the middles have a half day tomorrow, Noah has two days, and Jen three.

Concert!

The last evening activity for the year was tonight. The annual spring band concert was held at the Union Colony Civic Center. It included the 6th, 7th, 8th, high school concert and jazz bands from Frontier.  Here is Noah on the trumpet and his girlfriend Meriah on the flute. Thanks to Marci for the great picture.

38

Yep 38.  That's how many hours I gave to our school this year. This is the volunteer log at Frontier for parents to record their hours over the course of the school year. I spent every Thursday morning in Mrs. Johnson's class helping with reading. Today was the last day. I know there will be many more opportunities to volunteer in the future, but today is the end of one season of my parenting journey. I will never get to help in a pre school or kindergarten class again. Beginning in September, all the kids will be in school all day.  Today was the last day I will get to pick up my beautiful daughter at 11:15 and spend the afternoon with her.  Today was the last day helping Mrs. Johnson, (she cried by the way when I was leaving for the last time).  Today was the end of one adventure, and the beginning of the next.

Noah

As the school year is winding down, Noah has been very busy. Lots of school work including an amazing "short" story, awards nights, dances, and still plugging away on that perfect attendance. Noah was one of a handful of 6th graders to receive an award last week. He was awarded "Outstanding achievement in English" in part because of his "amazing work ethic, great ability to synthesize literature, and academic excellence." The next evening he escorted his girlfriend of almost 9 months (!!!) to the middle school dance. We are so proud of our almost 7th grader!

.50

Yep, thats how much Sarabeth earned with the loss of her upper bicuspid. I think its the same one the actor on the Hangover pulled out himself.  If you look close, you can still see blood. Could this little girl get any cuter?

Hiking

Here are a few more images from the weekend hike in Garden of the Gods in beautiful Colorado Springs. It was a great day for a hike/climb. Dad just needs to remember to pack the kids Camelbacks, more snacks, and better shoes for Jennifer. As an F.Y.I. for those of you heading to GOTG, please remember to stay on the paved trail, and DO NOT climb on the rocks or risk a $500 fine, as we were told by a "park ranger/wannabe cop/offical looking guy with a name tag."

Aunt Kim

All of us at Campingdad would like to wish our Aunt Kim a very happy birthday! We hope and pray that this year will bring you many blessings and happiness. We love you.

Character

Today was the annual "Dress as your favorite book character" day at Frontier. There was much discussion amongst the kids about who to be.  I would have picked Huck Finn or Ivan Denisovich. Sarabeth picked Fancy Nancy. The boys decided upon Percy Jackson. Jen is currently tie dying shirts for tomorrow theme. Developing....

Pit

A great way to finish off a wonderful week of vacation: first fire pit of 2011.  It's a great night for it too. So thankful for this past week, and all the neat and fun things we got to do as a family.

Climb

Hope Grandma Roth doesn't see this.

Garden of the Gods

Made it to the trail this morning. Waiting on the dozen horseback riders to go by. Kids have found rocks to climb!

Family

The family that deals together stays together. So glad Jim and Janet could join us tonight. And Sarabeth is a mean Laser Tag player. She just followed me around and shot me when my vest turned back on.

WINNING

Yep the kid is winning tonight. He just won 252 tickets on the deal or no deal game. It came down to the last two cases and he was offered the 252. One case had 4 and the case he had contained 500.  Winning.

Golf

Little D and Amy on the last hole of the indoor mini golf course.

Mr. Biggs!!

Out on the town for a night full of fun at Mr. Biggs. Check out www.mrbiggsffc.com see all this place has to offer. It's crazy!! Indoor mini golf, indoor go carts, laser tag, extreme gladiator area, arcade, the list goes on and on. Too bad we only have until midnight!!

Water!

Anyone that knows our family knows that we are like fat kids on cake when it comes to playing in creeks, lakes, rivers, oceans, swimming pools, ect.  So look what we found in downtown Manitou Springs!!

The best part has been when they were looking for something to float down the river and Little D threw not one, but BOTH his Keens down the river.....and those aren't cheap sandals.  Thankfully he chased them both down. Silly kid.

Feeding!

Up close and personal again for Nathanael and mom. Best $8 I've spent all day.

Thinking

A little up close and personal for Nathanael.

Carousel

We told the kids it was either ride the carousel or feed the girrafs. Not both. Sarabeth decided on the ride.

Fire!

Yep thats our group on top of the fire lookout tower. No fires yet.  Also no polar bears. Or Rhinos. But we did witness two giraffes mating. Or at least attempting. But like usual the male didn't have much luck. Poor guy.

Giraffe

Sure hope the kid washed his hands before we started eating lunch.

Lunch

Well....that wasn't cheap. Haha. But free refills on all the soda with the reusable cups. We have seen about half the zoo so far, but still looking for bears, snakes, rhinos, and the gift shop.

Sky Ride

It's a great start to our day at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo with a trip to the top on the Sky Ride. Kids are all excited to be here. Beautiful day in Colorado Springs to boot!

Pool!

Our motley group of travelers have arrived at our vacation destination for the weekend. And look what we found! The nice lady at the front desk even said she would keep it open for an extra half hour for us. Yes, there are more then our family of six on this trip. Two of our favorite babysitters got to come along with us. Brave girls.

Famous Americans Pt. 2

Finally got the video uploaded. And yes I know its sideways. Been one of those weeks for my online skills (or lack thereof). The important part is the audio anyways, right?

Famous Americans

Nathanael has been working very hard these past couple of weeks on the 2nd graders annual Famous Americans presentation. He selected Jackie Robinson from a long list of choices. Using several books, the World Book online, Jackierobinson.com, and the Hall of Fame website, he found out quite a bit about the man that broke the color barrier in baseball. Nathanael was also very interested in seeing the #42 at Coors Field this past weekend. He then explained to the group what it meant and why it was retired.

Fishing!

What a great week to take a vacation! Today's excitement included the annual 4th grade fishing trip! The Department of Wildlife came to class, gave a short presentation and presented every kid with a brand new fishing pole. Then it was off to the lake to put the poles to good use. Sarabeth tagged along after her morning class got out and we were able to see scenes like these. I don't know what was more amazing: that there were 3 fish that were actually caught OR that no one got hooked while they were casting like crazy on the dock. It was fun.

Pitching Change

Rally? Bottom of the 6th and Rockies might have something going. This is the same rowdy group from the car in an earlier post. Aren't they cute?

Dippin Dots

Rockies are down 8-2 in the top of the sixth. Sure are cute kids with their Dippin Dots and the Denver skyline. Everyone still having fun and dad is enjoying the first day of his vacation.

Us!

Ubaldo doesn't look good so far. Rockies losing 4-0 in the top of the third. It is District 6 day at the game today. There are several frontier families in our section. Let's go Rockies!

Made It!

We are a bit early for the 1:05 first pitch, but that gives us time to find our seats, get some grub, souvenirs, and use the potty. It's cloud with a slight breeze, but no snow. Yet. Haha.

Road Trip!!

Here is the gang that will be sitting in Section U238 for todays Rockies game. Looks rowdy, doesn't it??

After Hours

This is fun! Great music tonight, a good friend to share the evening with, cold beer, no work tomorrow, and Jeff Coffin is performing next!
