#16

Sixteen days and counting!! Hosted cigar club tonight and was tempted, but succeeded in just pounding two mineral waters and one cigar. Active morning at the gym (back day!) and fairly active throughout the day. Rumor has it that the PAUSE might last another freaking month. Good grief. Also, Frontier Secondary got sent home for two weeks starting tomorrow due to a second positive COVID case.

Interview

There she is! Today she is interviewing for a spot on the Success Foundation Junior Board. The Foundation works hand in hand with District 6 to build the next generation of leaders and provide kids the opportunity to expand their volunteer and community involvement. Good luck Sister!

Debate #1

Well, tonight is Presidential Debate #1 and it is a hot mess. More importantly, I had a good day today. Lots of steps, business plan and process coming together, a great steak dinner and party mix from mom!

Two Weeks

Well, two weeks into the “whole new us,” as Tom says. Good morning at the gym (chest day!), eating healthy throughout the day, no alcohol, but missed both 10000 steps and even 7000 steps. Still on the pause at Merrill. Everyone in the family is still healthy. Noah is getting settled into his new apartment. Andrew stopped by and cleaned out the refrigerator of leftovers.

Rest Day

Well, at least from exercise and tracking steps. But still plenty to do...house chores mostly. Trip to Kings. Dinner at Wing Shack.

But the cool part of today was the gathering at moms! Andrew made creme brûlée and Ari made scones and they picked up Than and Sis and spent 3 hours enjoying the food and talking. Ruthie even made an appearance!

Friday!

Great morning at the gym and an active evening walking around downtown between Luna’s and Tower produces the first 10000 step day this week! Also no booze at either of the places tonight. On to the weekend!

Zoom

While things aren’t as bad as they were back in March at the beginning of the pandemic, unfortunately there are still quite a few activities which are only going on via Zoom. Today was an excellent example. Our Chamber Leads group has been virtual since March. All of the ribbon cuttings have either been canceled or postponed. So today we had Leads on Zoom followed by a virtual ribbon cutting.

Day 11!

Cleared 8000 steps and closed all the rings! No drinking either. Cheers!

Wednesday

Well, I managed to close my 3 exercise rings but missed my 10000 step goal. Day 9 with no alcohol. I think I have lost about 4 pounds in those 9 days. Goal is to be back at pre-COVID weight by the end of the year.

On a side note, here are a few other pictures from the Franti show on Saturday.

Tuesday

Killed it this morning at the gym! Leg day! We chose to do cardio on the spin bike instead of the treadmill so I ended up missing my step count today. On the positive side, I closed all three rings on the Apple Watch and didn’t drink at the Ambassador meeting!

One Week

Well, it’s been a week since I fully committed to making some serious health changes. I feel good. I missed 10000 steps today, but didn’t drink and actually finished a book in one day! Haven’t done that in...years? Still waiting on Merrill to unpause us...the waiting is not the best. But Jen and sis are still in school. Than heads back to work tomorrow. The gym beckons at 430...

Rest

No gym today. Rest day. Ate good food, spent time with the family, laundry, and finished a book. Start fresh tomorrow!

Soulrockers!

Already time for another Michael Franti live streamed from Bali! We lugged the big screen TV back to the Wood’s house for our 4th Franti show of the summer. We were treated to a nacho bar while trying to get on the live-stream like we were able to do two months ago. We were sadly unable to do so. But we sure had fun trying!

Saturday-Day 6

Killed it today! The hour long workout to start the day really helped. Also, no drinking at the Franti live stream concert at the Woods house!

TableTop

Yesterday was the monthly TableTop Networking event that my friends Gregg and Diane organize and run. We met at Exodus Moving and Storage for a busy 3 hours of connecting with other business owners in the Northern Colorado area. I picked up a couple of solid leads and referrals! Always fun to be a Table Captain and now the “Town Cryer”.

PSU

Noah is officially finished with his time at Portland State. He checked out of his summer dorm yesterday and turned in his RA badge and keys. I hope it was a fun and worthwhile 3 years he was able to spend on campus. He says he will be taking a year off while he attempts to establish Oregon residency and wait out the online only college classes. He will be looking at an MBA degree offered by Oregon State at their satellite campus in Portland. Until then, he will continue working at Batteries+ and living in an apartment with his girlfriend and her friend.

Day 3!

I made my steps (barely) and also didn’t drink at cigar club tonight! Go Ryan go!

Networking

Well, trying to re-emerge from COVID and begin meeting up with people in the community. Stopped by a tailgate party my associate Ken was hosting before the Broncos game on Monday. Bumped into a friend from Tuesday night drinking club as well.

Day 2

Here is todays step goal. Made another 10,000! That’s 2 days in a row!

Goals

Trying to get back to a little bit healthier place over the last quarter of the year. I was in such a great place back in March, and then, well, COVID and gym closing and binge eating and drinking and all. Tom challenged me to a 30 day, no drink challenge. I decided to partner that with trying to get 10,000 per day. Usually by the time I leave the gym I’m at around 5,000+/-. So, here’s to an amazing alcohol free 30 days! Cheers!

Noah

Here is Noah checking in from the PDX! Nice cat, son. Air quality in Portland is currently the absolute worst in the ENTIRE WORLD. Dang. Quite a summer you are experiencing in the Pacific Northwest.

Music

It was a beautiful night Friday night for some live, outdoor music! This time it was the Greeley PHO Brass section playing a selection of tunes over the course of an hour. We even had “home field advantage” as it was it St. Michaels Square. I was joined by Jen, mom, Shep and Beryl. Followed up the show with dinner and drinks at the Tavern where our party was joined by Misty, Cory and Sharron. Cheers!

Trees

Spent Saturday morning volunteering in the name of Rotary to help with the city of Greeley tree planting project. I was joined by my good friend Nick Kenny and Ben Barnhart. We were able to get 5 trees planed in a little more then 4 hours. Thankfully it was a little cooler to start the day and no smoke from the fires.

Throwback

Do people still do that on social media? Who knows. I remember it use to be on Thursdays. Anyways, here are a few pictures from a year ago when we were still able to gather in person. Look at all those people!! No masks!!! No social distancing!!! Networking!!! I miss the good old days of Chamber events and seeing people and making connections and closing deals. These are from a Business Before Hours at the High Plains Library District building.

Laramie

Made a quick day trip to Laramie with mom and Jen yesterday to visit dad, see 179, and grab a quick lunch. We thought we could escape the smoke, but no luck. At least it was cooler. Dad’s grave was in perfect shape, the tree is thriving and there were no deer to be found. Still surreal to visit dads grave and the future resting place of mom. On a positive note, we did find a cool new brewery we will come back and visit.

DMB

Wrapped up the Summer Concert season with another home show, this time the Dave Matthews Band show from 09/04/2016 from the Gorge. Some readers will remember this is the show I scored a pit pass and rocked out 15 feet from the stage on N3! This show was much more relaxed, cheaper, and we were able to share it with so many good friends. Downside was the 100 degree heat and the ash that started falling about 830 from the nearby forest fires.
