Warriors Part 3

And now for the professional pictures from Warrior Dash 2014. Sadly, I couldn't find any of Noah on the course. You can sort of see him in the white tshirt to my left as we are crawling through the mud. And no, I'm not checking out the two people in front of me. I was trying to keep my face up for the photographer. It was a great day at Copper Mountain!

Warriors Part 2

Here are several of the obstacles that Noah and I conquered during Warrior Dash 2014. It was a pretty fun race. Stay tuned for the action pictures from the Dash coming soon...

Warriors Part 1

A year ago, while still finishing my battle with cancer, pain, and unsure of the future, I registered Noah and I for the Warrior Dash. It is a 5k adventure run, through mud, fire, water and other obstacles. I figured that by August 2014, surly I would be well enough to participate in a simple 5k. Espically since I had finished a Tough Mudder and had a tattoo to prove it!

Well, all of a sudden race day arrived. Noah had been running 5-7 miles A DAY for months. I had not run, jumped or climbed in a year and a half or longer. What could go wrong?

So we found ourselves at the base of Copper Mountain last Saturday. As the 10 AM start time approached, I was pretty nervous. Could I make it 3.2 miles? Climb over stuff and swim through stuff with my bag? Keep up with Noah?

The fire exploded and we were off. And guess what? I survived. I got muddy. I had fun. I laughed with my son. And we earned our helmets, finishers medals and beer. And a huge turkey leg to celebrate. Bring on Warrior Dash 2015. Maybe Andrew can join us...big or little d. Or both.

Bowling

We celebrated Nathanael's 12th birthday yesterday with a cosmic bowling party and sleep over with his friends. It was pretty fun! Several of the kids had never bowled before or never participated in the cosmic bowling. Grilled burgers for the sleepover kids. They ended up playing out back for several hours after dinner. Found Nathanael (in red shirt) halfway up the tree trying to retrieve his frisbee. Both came out of the tree safely. Jennifer made some sweet Dr. Who treats for the party too. Pancakes and bacon for breakfast! Happy birthday son, I love you.

XC

We had the privilege of hosting the high school cross-country team for their weekly dinner last week. While not quite as large as the group last summer, it was still a great group of kids to have over for burgers, hot dogs, watermelon, chips and Gatorade. Thanks to the McBrides for co-hosting with us. Can't wait for the season to start!
