Cigar Festival- Friday

Scott and I managed to sneak down to the Friday night pre-party for the 2022 Rocky Mountain International Cigar Festival. Pretty fun event, once we figured out how it went. We stood in line for over an hour to meet Jonathan Drew, founder of Drew Estate cigars. He signed a few cigar boxes for us and even lit one of his cigars for each of us.

Missing mom

Been a tough week or so in my grief journey. I don’t know what has triggered the grief…maybe sister’s impending departure which is another reminder of a milestone that mom won’t be celebrating with us. Maybe continuing to work through her estate. Maybe the idea we are starting to plan Christmas and I know that neither mom or dad will be here to celebrate with us. Probably a little of everything. Here are a few reminders. Call and hug your parents today if you can. Take pictures of them with you. Make memories, both big and small.

Randoms

Here are a few pictures from the last several weeks of some random events. I was asked to sit in the dunk tank for Mav’s 7th birthday! It was cold and the kids that were there have pretty good aim. A couple of networking events over the past several weeks. Andrew and his friends playing Twilight Imperium at the dining room table.

Mob Mixer- Poker Run Edition

The Mob Mixer is alive and well after 18 months! For the August event, we decided to mix it up and try a poker run in various downtown businesses. It was a huge hit. Only way it could have been better would have been if it wasn’t 100 degrees outside. We had a DJ and gave away a paddle board to the winner! Next event is September 14 at Luna’s on the patio!

First Day!

Now that the kids have all graduated and are off doing their own things, its getting tougher and tougher to acquire first day of school pictures. Here is the first one I have received so far this school year: my favorite daughter-in-law as she starts her final semester of college at UNC. She is on track to graduate in December with a criminal justice major.

Steve Miller Band

Made it back to Red Rocks to see the Steve Miller Band…one of Shelley’s favorites! Sad we were missing one of our group, but Monday night concerts for teachers can be a bit rough. It was a beautiful night on the Rocks. SMB played a tight set of 15 songs plus the encore. It did take two hours to get home which wasn’t ideal. This was a much better time then the previous trip we are made back in April about 10 days before mom passed away. Only one more Red Rocks show planned for 2022.

Baseball

We made our first trip to Coors Field since April of 2021 over the weekend to celebrate Nathanael’s 20th birthday. Had great seats on the first base side 30 rows up. Great game the Rockies managed to win in the bottom of the 10th. It was a fun in-game experience since the last time we attended a game. Rockies have several young players that will be fun to watch (until they get traded to the Red Sox or the Cardinals).

Suitcase Party!

The annual NoCo Unify Suitcase Party was held on Friday night at the Loveland Regional airport in a hanger. I was privileged to attend the event as a guest of my friend Jeff, who is the executive director of NCYFC, which was being honored as one of the beneficiaries of the event. The winner of the raffle got to board a private jet and head to Napa for the weekend. Sadly, it wasn’t me. Still a pretty fun evening. Also nailed the theme of the event, which was “Black & White.”

20

And just like that, there was only one teenager left in the Roth household! Happy 20th birthday to the newly married man! I hope today and the year ahead are blessed, full of adventures and surprises, and that you continue to grow and mature as a new husband. I love you son.

TT-Longmont

Attended both the NoCo and Longmont TableTops this week. I was able to be a sponsor for the Longmont chapter, which allowed me to have a table and speak to the attendees for 3 minutes. I based my talk on mom and dad’s life, and their faithful commitment to their advisor and their saving and investing plan. The positive feedback I received was very touching. I miss both of you so much. Being an orphaned adult sucks.
