Photo of the Year 2024

There were so many great memories and moments of 2024. Our family celebrated a college graduation, an impending wedding, and many personal and professional successes. While sifting through the 4000 or so pictures I took this year, the photo of the year really came down to this. Our family, together, having fun and celebrating one another. It was taken in the elevator leaving Father’s Day dinner in Portland. A close second was my surgery and healing in March. One of the unexpected surprises and joys was the addition of Bella, who has brought so much happiness and joy.

Happy New Year to all my readers. Cheers to 2025.

Wild

We had seen the ads for the Maurice Sendak art experience at the Denver Art Museum for the past month or so. While in Denver for the Greensky show, we decided to drop in and take a gander. The exhibit was a collection of his life’s work, original pieces, the back store on many of his books, and of course the center pieces of the exhibit was focused on “Where the Wild Things Are.” It was so special to see the original illustrations, story line, and relics based on his book. “And it was still hot.” Sniff sniff. Sadly no one asked about my tattoo.

Greensky

After the wildness and craziness of the last few weeks, Jen gifted me tickets to Night 1 of Greensky Bluegrass at the Mission Ballroom in order to get away together for a night and reconnect. First time I have managed to see them since 2022 at Red Rocks with cousin Emily and family. Was scheduled to see their lead singer Phoffman in Ft. Collins on March 24, but we all know how that turned out. Also had tickets to their 2 night stand at Red Rocks in September that didn’t pan out either. So I was grateful when the guys walked on stage and stared jamming. Highlight was an 11 minute opener of the second set of  “Grow Together.” Also, cool poster.

Photos of the Year PT. 4

Another year is coming to a close. But before that, here are the pictures that captured the last three months of 2024. ALLO events were still in full swing, we got to see Sara(Beth) on a sunny afternoon in Boulder, a work adventure in Lincoln, Thanksgiving with friends, and an incredible Christmas season with the entire family home in Greeley. What a year! Photo of the year coming up later today!

2024 Concerts

For those of you that read the blog regularly, you know that attending concerts is one of my favorite activities to do with friends and family. In 2023, I managed to attend at least one concert per month, sometimes more. My goal in 2024 was no different. I’m not sure that the same goal will be achievable in 2025, due to the rising costs of damn near everything associated with live music: the actual ticket, parking, food, drinks, and merchandise. Maybe the goal will be to attend a few special shows at the big venues, more shows locally, and who knows, maybe travel to a show at a new venue outside of Colorado.

Overall, it was a good year for shows. I made it to a show in 9 of 12 months, missing March and April for obvious reasons, and for some reason September. Here’s some pictures from concert season 2024.

The year started with a show at the Moxi in Greeley from a Tesla cover band.

The GPO at the UCCC in Greeley in February.

TOOL at the Pepsi Center/Ball Arena in February.

Off to The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park for Postmodern Jukebox in February.

Missed a few months, but made it to Red Rocks for Michael Franti in May.

Back at Red Rocks for Trevor Hall in June.

Dirty Heads on July 1 at Red Rocks.

Zac Brown Band at Mile High Stadium in July.

The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail for night 1 of O.A.R. In August.

Night 1 of the Dave Matthews Band at Fiddler’s Green in Greenwood Village in August

Night 2 of Dave Matthews Band at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheater in Greenwood Village in August.
