As many of you already know, it was another slow, uneventful weekend at the Roth household over Labor Day. I had been experiencing some terrible abdominal pain over the last several weeks, almost a month. My radiation doctor said it was leftover side effects from treatment and the symptoms would be mostly gone after 14 days. Well at 22 days, I was still waking up in terrible pain every night at about midnight. I would take a few pain killers and try and sleep. Then go back to work.
Well Friday afternoon my nurse recommended I get a CT scan to see what the problem was. After checking in in the ER at Medical Center of the Rockies, it was determined I had something my surgeon had heard of but never seen: chronic appendices. Ouch. That would explain the pain. So at almost 10 on Friday night, my appendix was removed. Things went mostly well, and thankfully my big surgery in October won't be pushed back. I was discharged Saturday afternoon and have been at home recovering.
Thanks to everyone once again for the love, support, emails, text messages and calls. This has been one hell of a terrible year for me and it is only September with the cancer still inside me and chemo looming on the horizon.
The emotional roller coaster of a cancer survivor is intense. Anger, fear, sadness, pain, and the unknown are all common emotions everyday for me. I am so thankful for all the support we have found, and the friends who continue to stand with us through this terrible and dark time in my life. Please keep calling, texting, Facebooking, emailing and stopping by.
