Happy Birthday!

Grandpa got to blow out candles at breakfast and after dinner! First on his French toast and then on his favorite dessert, German chocolate cake! Happy birthday grandpa. So glad we got to spend it with you! 

Mount Garfield (con't)

Here are the rest of the pictures from the hike up, the summit, and the very quick descent down. Only took 45 minutes. Boy oh boy will my knees be sore tomorrow. I'm not a kid anymore it seems. 

Mount Garfield

The boys had been asking for a hike, so today we attempted Mount Garfield just outside Grand Junction. It was quite a hike. Whew! Here is a good site to check out that describes it: http://www.gjhikes.com/2009/08/date-august-23-2009-round-trip-distance.html?m=1

We made it to the top in a little more then 90 minutes. It was well worth it. The view was incredible! Sadly, the flagpole wasn't there anymore. A fellow group of hikers were nice enough to take a picture of the three of us. Only one way to go now! Down....

Junction

A little more low-key day here today. Although we did seem to get quite a bit done. The ladies spent most of the morning making tamales for great grandpa Morgans big birthday celebration in May. Jim and I worked on the Ford and ran a few errands for his job. There were multiple board games going on throughout the day: Life and Risk and Settlers of Catan. Nathanael and I worked in about an hour long bike ride "down by the river." After dinner, Sarabeth, Nathanael, Janet and I rode bikes to the local Frozen Yougurt shop. Thankfully no one died. And I'm almost half way through "Fourth of July Creek." 

Grand Mesa

The Grand Mesa awaits! We had planned to take a hike from the visitors center on top of the Mesa, however the snow had a different idea. So the hike became a nice drive, a few scenic pullouts and a quick snow ball fight. After grilling out some burgers and putting Janet's new bike together, the bike gang on Mesa View Drive was born. A great day of vacation. Also finished another book! 

Vacation!

It has begun! The boys started Thursday afternoon, Sarabeth Friday afternoon, and Jen finally an noon on Saturday after she was able to put the middle school yearbook to bed. It's going to be a great book this year! Campingdad signed off the frito route late Saturday. Grand Junction awaits! 

Mr. Frontier

The annual Mr. Frontier contest was held on Wednesday night at the school. It is a yearly tradition which crowns one senior boy as the best boy of the senior class in a Miss America type pageant. While we don't have a senior yet, Noah and his friend Ben were asked to host the event. It's a big deal. Similar to hosting the Oscars. And they knocked it out of the park! Three contume changes, whitty banter between themselves and the contestants and the ability to keep the show rolling highlighted the evening. Maybe someday one of the Roth boys will be crowned Mr. Frontier.
