TBT

Boy oh boy, do I miss Mexico. Here are some pictures from our Friday morning adventure. We were picked up by our tour guide at the front door of Dreams and driven about 45 minutes in some direction, mostly likely south and west, and obviously not east. We arrived at the Myan ruins late morning and were given a tour. Then we could explore before picking out a bicycle to ride to the other set of larger ruins that we would be allowed to climb! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! Riding a clunker through the jungle with my wife in Mexico. It was like living a very small piece of Outside magazine or something. Jen decided to wait in the shade while I scaled the massive Myan ruin. Very steep climb. In the sun. But I made it. And I was rewarded with an incredible view of the surrounding area. Climbed back down and remounted our clunkers for the pedal back to the shuttle. We did a little shopping while waiting for the rest of the tour group. Where's lunch?

Normal?

Seems like the only thing we recieve in the mailbox anymore are letters like these addressed to son the oldest. We get like 2-5 per day. Are other parents of sophomores/juniors getting the same? Is this normal? Here are the latest. I'm hoping for either the U or maybe a Duck. Of course, there wouldn't be anything wrong with a Bear either!

Squids

Nathanael asked me to attend and help with the squid dissection in his science class yesterday. Who could turn an offer like that down? It was pretty fun, watching 22 6th graders tear into dead squids. Nathanael loves this kind of stuff. His lab partner didn't want anything to do with the squid, so Nathanael got to do everything!

Spring!!

Or at least late January. Sorry to all the folks reading this up in the northeast. Beautiful weather this weekend, so we got out the bikes! Nathanael and Sarabeth used the gift cards they recieved for Christmas at Recycled Cycles in Ft. Collins. Nathanael used his and the credit from trading in two old bikes for a slightly used mountain bike! Sarabeth used her money to add some accessories to the bike that Andrew and Rebecca gave her before they moved. Then it was time to ride. So thankful the littles still enjoy their bikes. It's going to be a great summer!

Licensed

It's a very big day in a young mans life when he earns his drivers license. And on Wednesday, after a year of good driving with his permit and a drivers ed class and driving test, Noah earned that privilege. He was pretty pumped. So we stopped at Starbucks on the way to school and got a coffee together. As the saying goes, "with great privilege comes great responsibility." Congratulations son. Mom and I are so proud of you. Now to find a car you can call your own!

Noah

Noah has been a busy sophomore the last few weeks. For one of the last times, I drove him to work at Steak n' Shake during the blizzard over winter break. Because....he will have his Colorado drivers license in less then a week. This is the log book of his driving hours he turned into his drivers ed teacher over the weekend.  And I don't really know what he does some Friday nights while I'm at home asleep, but someone caught him on their Twitter feed at the girls basketball game!

Book Clubs

It was a great start to 2015, with all three of my book clubs meeting within the past week. Book & Beers had an intimate evening together at Wiley Roots discussing Kent Haruf's "Plainsong."

Saturday night it was the monthly gathering of the Civilizing Book club at Deb's downtown loft. Although we were missing several members, it was still a great night of food, friendship, cocktails, and invigorating discssion of "The Optimists Daughter." I made Scarlet O'Haras in honor of the books Southern roots.

Sundays online book club with The Rumpus was a complete wash-out. Neither the moderator nor the author made an appearance. Quite a disappointment for slogging through a book I didn't really care for. Might drop out of this one if next month doesn't go better.

Cowboys!

For those of you with an iPhone and Siri, this is the answer you recieved yesterday to the question, "Siri, what is your favorite men's college basketball team?" Go Cowboys! Currently ranked #25 in the nation.

Big D

What a great way to spend the first day of 2015! I met up with Big Andrew at the Tattered Cover on Colfax. We spent an hour or so catching up, drinking coffee and shopping for a few books. We lunched at our favorite pub, The Irish Snug. So many memories on that stretch of Colfax! We tried to stop at VooDoo Donuts, but they were closed. Kids were sad dad didn't bring fresh donuts home. Thanks Big D! See you soon.

Happy New Year!

A week late. So much for that resolution to post on the blog more often. We had a fun New Years Eve with our friends out on the town. I only have New Years Day off every 5 years or so, so I need to take advantage of the situation. We enjoyed good beer and free wings at the first anniversary party at Broken Plow Brewery. Then moved the party to The Tavern to ring in 2015. Dinner, drinks, and a game of Cards Against Hummanity. Happy New Year everyone!
