Screwtape!

My final birthday present arrived over the weekend, when Jen and I traveled to Colorado Springs for a stage performance of CS. Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters." It was an amazing single actor 90 minute production. The main actor also announced after the performance in a Q&A that they have purchased the rights to another great Lewis novel "The Great Divorce," which will hopefully be staged in late 2013.

After the play, we were trying to decide on a place for dinner. Could have chosen a local burger and fries joint, but thanks to the power of cell phones and Google, we located the only Ethiopian restaurant in all of Springs! And it was only 10 blocks away.

The dinner was amazing. The owner/hostess was even more so. We spent almost two hours eating and talking with her while she served us some of the most amazing food I have ever enjoyed. She not only owns the restaurant, but also runs a small school for adopted Ethiopian children and their forever families. We of course shared Wes and Kim's adoption story, and she said she would pray for them and their baby. She even packed up several small desserts for us to take back to the kids. Finally she presented us with the Book of Friends for us to leave a note and our thoughts in.What an amazing woman. Chef Maya can be found on the web at www.uchennalive.com . Like her slogan says:"Live! Love! Be Loved! Eat Well!"

Action

It was really fun seeing all the kids reactions to the cow hearts. Quite a few dived right in, while several held back a bit, and a couple couldn't go anywhere near them. Andrew had his gloves on right away and started poking and prodding the heart. He also asked if it was edible. Near the end, the Doctor arrived at our table and spent almost 5 minutes talking to the kids and showing them different aspects of the heart. He also got a pair of scissors and made a few cuts so the kids could get a better view. Doesn't Little D look like a younger version of the Doctor and vice versa?

Heart

Kids are on their way in. The hearts are ready. Over/under on kids throwing up/passing out is 1.  I'll take the over.

Ready

The hearts have arrived. There are several nurses, a doctor, and lots of parents here to help. The cow hearts are huge! Kids arriving in a little less then 20 minutes. Developing....

Winning

On the left is my new gold card. Some people purse the gold Visa. Others the gold Amex. Me? Starbucks. The company only gives out gold cards to their most loyal high rollers.

On the right is a Red Card reward from my Super Target. Last week while working the chip section, I found a check in an envelope for $950 made out to a woman in Ft. Collins. I turned it into the store manager and was recognized for my honesty.

Winning.

Taylor Swift

Well, not yet. But she sure is trying. Somehow Sarabeth got the mic again for a Taylor Swift song. She was trying it solo, but since she can't quite read yet, she was struggling a bit. So the DJ invited some girls up to help. They did a great job!!

Singers!!

It is the final dance night of the school year at the elementary school tonight. Since Jen is still so sick, I thought I'd bring the kids for a few hours of dancing, eating and running around. We haven't been here quite 10 minutes, and some how Sarabeth got the mic and talked her brother into singing with her. They sang to Queen's "We Will Rock You." Did a great job too!

More Winning

In another surprise, I was awarded this prize for doing an outstanding job on one of the routes I swing on.  Do I feel guilty that I won both of these awards while only being on the route for 10 weeks?? A little bit maybe.  Am I over it? Yes. Go Route 96830.

Winning!

In a surprise development, I won something!! Even though I was only a swing on the route for 11 weeks, my lead Doug and I were awarded the best Wal-Mart in the zone for 2010.  A large cash prize was included in the award!

Hoops

We made 18 shots in 4 minutes. Not only are we the best sales district, we also were varsity basketball players. We got game. And we are WINNING.

Games!

We are having the games first this year. Our district started on Wii bowling!! Go team go!!

Seats

Here is some nice swag that is at everyone's seat this year. The theme is Hollywood and the Oscars. I'm hoping that Anne Hathaway makes a guest appearance.

Lunch

I have arrived at the yearly Frito Lay zone roll out meeting. Thankfully it is in Loveland this year and not Cheyenne or Denver. I am not expecting any awards or recognition this year. At least we got a nice lunch to begin the day. More updates to follow.

Ride

It's not as easy when you don't have someone up front pulling you along. We took several laps around the neighborhood, then decided it was time to get some practice in on her own. I love the look with the skirt, bike jersey, and helmet. First the driveway, then Elephant Rock with her dad on her own bike!

Prayers Needed!

I haven't written much on the exciting adventure that my brother and sister-in-law have been embarking on since last April. They are beginning their family by adopting an infant from Ethiopia. Please click on their blog link in the side bar "Baby Roth's Journey Home" for the background and latest information on their journey. We have been praying diligently for our new niece/nephew/cousin for almost a year now. All of us had hoped there would be news at this point for their child and a date when Wes and Kim would become a family of 3. I am asking my readers, friends, and family to pray. Pray for this child. Pray for their referral. Pray for patience. Please pray that the day will be soon when they find out pink or blue. Pray for the birth mother and her safety. Pray for the health and protection of their child. Pray for Wes and Kim and their preparation to become a family.

Picked up a copy of Annie Proulx's new book at the Borders store closing over the weekend. We have at least two things in common: our love of books and we have both lived in beautiful Wyoming.
